How to Manage Gig Sets from Your Phone (Beating the 9-Project Limit Live)
Your EP holds nine projects. A longer set needs more. With EP-PatchStudio on your phone, you can swap projects in and out of the device's nine slots at the venue, straight from your pocket.
The EP-40, EP-133 and EP-1320 each hold nine projects at a time. That's fine for a short set, but play a longer night and nine isn't enough. The fix is to keep your projects in a library on your phone and rotate them through the device's nine slots as you go, no laptop required.
This is the live, on-the-go version of the off-device project library. Here it's all happening on your phone at the venue.
Build your set at home
Before the gig, get your library in order in EP-PatchStudio. Save each project off the device into your
local library, give it a name you'll recognise on stage ("opener", "encore", not P03), and tag the
ones you want for tonight so they're grouped together. The library lives on your phone, so it's with
you wherever you play.
Rotate projects at the venue
With the EP connected to your phone over USB, your nine slots become a window onto a much bigger set:
- Load the projects for your first stretch into the nine slots.
- Play.
- Between sets, restore the next batch from your library into the slots you've finished with.
Because the library is named and tagged, you're pulling up the right project in seconds, in a dark
room, on your phone, rather than squinting at P01 through P09 on the device.
Don't forget a backup
Rotating projects means restoring over what's in the slots, so take a backup before you start. Then anything you tweak on stage can be saved back into the library when you get home, ready for next time.
