How to Back Up Your EP from Your Phone Before a Gig
No laptop at the venue? No problem. EP-PatchStudio runs on your phone, so you can take a full backup of your EP-40, EP-133 or EP-1320 from your pocket before you play, with the device on USB.
The worst time to lose a project is right before you play it. You don't always have a laptop at the venue, but you've always got your phone, and EP-PatchStudio runs on it. So a proper backup is a couple of minutes' work in the green room.
The quick version
Connect your EP-40, EP-133 or EP-1320 to your phone over USB, open EP-PatchStudio, go to Backup &
Restore, and take a Full Device backup. That captures every sample and every project as a single
.pak file, saved to your phone. If anything goes sideways on stage, you've got a clean copy to
restore from.
Why it's quick
EP-PatchStudio caches your device's samples, so the first backup takes a couple of minutes while it builds that cache, and any backup after that drops to around 20 seconds. Do the first one at home and the pre-gig top-up is almost instant.
What to back up
- Full Device is the safest before a gig: everything in one file.
- If you just want tonight's set, back up All Projects, or a single project as a
.ppak.
Either way, it's the same Backup & Restore you'd use on the desktop, just running on your phone.
A couple of tips
- Use a USB data cable, not charge-only, or the app won't see the device.
- Do the first, slow backup before you leave the house, so the cache is already built when you're short on time at the venue.
