How to Manage Your EP Sampler from an Android Phone

EP-PatchStudio runs on Android, so you can manage samples, build kits and multisamples and back up your EP-40, EP-133 or EP-1320 from your phone, with the device on USB. Here's how to get set up.

If you'd rather not be tied to a computer, EP-PatchStudio runs on Android. Plug your EP-40, EP-133 or EP-1320 into your phone and you've got the full app in your hand, samples, kits, multisamples and backups included.

Installing it

EP-PatchStudio for Android is distributed as an APK, which you download from the website rather than an app store. Grab it from the download page and install it on your phone the usual way. It's free.

Connecting your EP

Connect the EP to your phone over USB. Most modern Android phones use USB-C, the same as the EP, so a USB-C to USB-C data cable is all you need. As on the desktop, a charge-only cable won't carry data, so if the app doesn't see your device, that's the first thing to check.

What you can do

Just about everything you'd do on a computer:

  • Manage samples with the File Manager: upload, download, delete and tidy slots.
  • Import audio and trim and edit it in the Sample Editor.
  • Build kits and multisamples and send them to the EP over USB.
  • Back up your projects so nothing's at risk before a gig or a firmware update.

The only feature that stays on the desktop is the Auto-Sampler, which needs MIDI and audio routing that suits a computer. Everything else is there on the phone.
