How to Keep a Tidy Backup History for Your EP
One backup is good. A tidy history of them is better. EP-PatchStudio keeps your device backups in a library you can tag, pin and search, so the important ones never get lost. Here's how it works.
Taking a backup is step one. The problem comes later, when you've got a dozen of them and can't remember which is the one from before you wiped the device. EP-PatchStudio keeps every backup in an in-app library so you can find, tag and protect the ones that matter. It's part of Pro, and it works with the EP-40, EP-133 and EP-1320.
Your backups, in one list
Under Your Backups in Backup & Restore, every backup you've taken shows up in a list, newest first,
ten to a page. Each row tells you the date, which device it came from, whether it's a full device
backup (.pak) or a single project (.ppak), and its size. From the row you can restore it, export a
copy to disk, or delete it.
If you run more than one EP, the list uses the nickname you gave each device, so a backup reads as "gig 40" rather than a serial number. Flip between This device and All backups to narrow the list to what's plugged in or see everything you've got.
Tag the ones you'll want to find
Any backup can take tags. Tag the one you made "before firmware 2.0", or the clean starting point you keep coming back to, and you can pick it out of a long list in a second. Tags are just labels, so use whatever wording makes sense to you.
Pin the ones you can't lose
To stop the library growing forever, EP-PatchStudio auto-prunes: it keeps your five most recent backups per device and clears out older ones as new ones come in. That's fine for routine backups, but not for the one golden copy you never want to lose.
That's what pinning is for. Pin a backup (it gets a "Kept" badge) and it's exempt from auto-pruning, full stop. Pin your known-good baseline and it stays put no matter how many everyday backups pile up on top. The backup you've just taken is always safe too, even if it tips you over the limit.
Keep an eye on the size
The library shows its total size, and warns you if it grows past a couple of gigabytes, so a stack of full-device backups doesn't quietly eat your disk. Between pinning what matters and letting auto-prune handle the rest, it mostly looks after itself.
